Matthias Gabriel Roux. - "Guitarmaker"

In early 1999 I received a phone call from a teacher at the local Waldorf Steiner school, “would I agree to mentor an 18 year old final year school pupil with a passion for guitars and woodwork, to make a guitar for a school project ?”

After 23 years of working alone, I had to give this some thought. I agreed to meet with Matthias and his parents After that meeting and seeing some of his work, done at school and home, I agreed to take him on.

He completed a fine guitar which he presented with much pride at the school projects evening. I then offered him to continue to apprentice with me which he accepted. That was 6 years ago

Matthias has since qualified as a guitar maker and is my right hand man in the business. He has covered all aspects of guitar making, inlay, design, and varnishing.

Matthias is a young man with fantastic skills, he is a fine guitar maker, accurate woodworker, perfectionist, and passion filled person. He loves what he does and approaches all aspects of his craft with calmness and respect. His attention to detail and patience are his forte.

He plays beautiful flamenco guitar, and has a good, true ear for music and tempo, he has built a few fine instruments for himself and friends.

His presence in the studio is quiet and centered, whilst his eye for artistic inlays and extra pieces is excellent. I trust him in his work and enjoy the energy that he brings to Maingard guitars.
